The DISCAPE Story

Welcome to DISCAPE. What started out as a hobby and then an idea, is now a brand with an aim of growing the game of disc golf we all love. I’m Ned (co-founder) and I first took up this sport during the pandemic, as a frequent visitor of the Toronto Islands. Fell in love with the sport – a perfect ‘escape’ (see where we got the name?) from the city and a fun time. In 2023, I got more into it and hooked as we all do.

My entrepreneurial-minded friend Jonathan (co-founder) mentioned to me in December 2023: “what’s the Canadian disc golf market really like? Can we do something here?” We both have backgrounds in sports & marketing, so we had a natural curiosity.

We needed a supply chain. Jonathan has some great connections back home in China where he’s from. To be honest, it was a tough search – finding someone who shared our passion for growing the game and also willing to produce quality discs. Low & behold, we find Daniel (Chief Product Officer) who happens to love the sport. He’s actually growing disc golf back in China – helping build courses and is an avid player himself. Talk about a needle in a haystack. This relationship really made our dream a reality.

Fast forward a couple of months (it’s only February at this point) and I’m at Islands Winter League playing with plain white prototype discs for DISCAPE. They felt great and other players agreed (I had to ask experts since I’m definitely not one). At this point it was like “okay, we actually have a solid product here. Let’s do this.” Confidence was booming and we looped in Mitch (Chief Marketing Officer) to help us really build the brand – logos, stamps, creative, etc.

And born is our first ever set – made up of Draconyx (distance), Skyterron (mid), Aquarion (putter). We received the discs in May and the feedback and support we’ve gotten so far has been overwhelming. Over 200 of our discs are flying across Canada – in 5 different provinces! We can’t thank this community enough.

We’re planning next steps as I write this – with plans to increase our inventory on our current discs, add more options and products, build more relationships with all the amazing people, companies, and communities across the country, and ultimately, grow this awesome game we love.
